What is a bucketing strategy?
- Bucketing is the process of regularly segregating enough assets to meet needs into a conservative holding for a certain period of time, while allowing the remainder of the portfolio to be invested for a longer period of time.
- This allows you to safely cover your clients' needs while investing the remainder of their assets for growth.
Procedures
How do I add a bucketing strategy to a distribution account?
- From the Bucketing tab, select
.- To use the calculator, enter the Number of Years the distribution account will need to cover deficits. The Distribution Bucket Target Balance automatically populates with the appropriate amount.
- The amount determined by the calculator is entered in the Target Balance field.
- If applicable, use the Infl and +/- Add'l fields to index the Target Balance for inflation (plus or minus any additional indexation).
- If applicable, use the Asset Class Weightings menu to classify the distribution bucket.
- When you are satisfied with these options, click OK.
