The items in the Assign Settings dialog box vary depending on the report or graph being generated. Some of the items listed may not appear in the Assign Settings dialog box for the report or graph you are generating.
If selected, the report displays detailed account holding values. If cleared, the report displays summary account values.
The year to which the information in the report or graph applies.
The report generates using asset values as of the valuation date selected.
Asset described in the report.
Number of years to be shown in the report.
Bases the report or graph on the selected scenario type:
List of goals that can be included in the report.
If selected, the report separates the net worth assets for the client and co-client. In this case, up to five years can be displayed in the report. If cleared, the net worth assets are consolidated for each year and 10 years can be displayed in report.
Portfolio on which the report or graph will be based. Any of the following choices may be available, depending on the plan level and the report selected:
The following choices apply to the Efficient Frontier report:
The following items only appear when you are generating the Monte Carlo graph.
Randomize Life Expectancy
- Randomly selects life expectancies for each iteration of the simulation. Monte Carlo theory suggests that using random life expectancies results in more realistic simulations. Life expectancies are based on a mortality table.
Force Full Deficit Coverage
- Automatically redeems available assets throughout the entire plan (not just the retirement period, which is the default) to cover annual cash flow deficits. By default, any available non-qualified assets owned by the client or co-client are used to cover these deficits. Selecting this option does not change the plan in any way, but may result in a higher number of failures. For example, if assets funding retirement are depleted to cover deficits in the pre-retirement period, the likelihood that deficits occur during retirement increases. If a deficit is greater than the success tolerance, a failure is triggered.
Cash flow deficits during the retirement years are covered by the sale of qualified and non-qualified assets. This is always true, both in the Monte Carlo analysis and in the plan.Show Goal Details Graphs in Report
- If selected, includes graphs that show the details about retirement/major purchase/education goals at the end of the report. This option is recommended if you want to see how individual projections are distributed or if you are interested in seeing the highest or lowest results that occurred during the Monte Carlo simulation.
Retirement Goal Deficit Tolerance
- The deficit tolerance your clients feel comfortable with, expressed as a negative number.
Education Goal Deficit Tolerance
- The deficit tolerance your clients feel comfortable with, expressed as a negative number.
Major Purchase Goal Deficit Tolerance
- The deficit tolerance your clients feel comfortable with, expressed as a negative number.
Number of Projections
- The number of projections that will be run. The number must be between 100 and 1,000. The more projections run, the longer it takes to complete the simulation.
Start
- First year shown in the report or graph.
- It can be up to 75 years in the future, but cannot be before the current plan year.
- You can enter a year or select an event that will trigger the start date. If you select an event, NaviPlan automatically displays the associated year.
End
- Last year shown in the report or graph.
- It can be up to 75 years in the future, but cannot be before the current plan year.
- You can enter a year or select an event that will trigger the start date. If you select an event, NaviPlan automatically displays the associated year.
Members to include
- Family members included in the report or graph.
Base Projections on
- Kind of dollar values used in the report or graph.
Show Buying Power every <n> years
- How often buying power dollars are to be displayed in the report or graph.
Start Showing Buying Power Values in
- First year that you want buying power dollars to be displayed.
Override
- If selected, the report or graph displays some of the years in the specified range, but not all of them. This reduces the size of the report or graph.
After <n> year(s), show only...years
- Years in the specified range (from the Starting Year to the Ending Year) that should be included in the report.
- For example, if you enter After 10 year(s), show only Multiples of 5 year(s), then each of the first 10 years in the specified range will be included in the report and every fifth year after that.
- If you select Multiples of <x> years, then after the first n years, only years divisible by x will be shown. For example, if the Starting Year is 2003 and you enter After 5 year(s), show only Multiples of 5 year(s), then the report displays the years 2003 through 2007 and then every year divisible by 5 after that (2010, 2015, etc.).
- If you select Every <x> year(s), then after the first n years, every x year is displayed. For example, if the Starting Year is 2003 and you enter After 5 year(s), show only Every 5 year(s), then the report displays the years 2003 through 2007 and then every 5 years after that (2012, 2017, etc.). You cannot enter a value in this field unless you have selected Override under Limit Future Years.
Ending with the last <n> year(s)
- Number of consecutive years that should be shown at the end of the report or graph.
- For example, if you enter a starting year of 2001, an ending year of 2021, and Ending with the last 3 year(s), the years 2019, 2020, and 2021 are included in the report or graph regardless of the other criteria you enter. You cannot enter a value in this field unless you have selected Override under Limit Future Years.
Show
- Kind of dollar values (nominal, buying power, or both) that you want the report or graph to show after it starts skipping years.
- For example, if the report shows 10 consecutive years and then every fifth year after that, the first 10 years are displayed according to the kind of dollar values you selected from the Base Projections on list and every fifth year after that is displayed according to the kind of dollar values you selected from the Show list.
